Meadows Behavioral Healthcare expands to offer short-term stabilization and a more flexible, individualized residential program under one roof

[WICKENBURG, AZ, January 22, 2023] Meadows Behavioral Healthcare (MBH), the industry leader in trauma, addiction, eating disorders, and co-occurring disorder treatment for more than 45 years, is excited to announce the grand opening of Spero Center at The Meadows.

Located in Wickenburg, Arizona, less than an hour from Phoenix, this new facility was created to meet two distinctly different needs under one roof: providing a secure setting for those needing short-term stabilization and assessment, while also offering a residential program for individuals with complex presenting issues in a gentler environment that allows for a highly individualized treatment approach.

Spero Center’s “Sky” or Stabilization Wing provides a soft landing for those who need a few days to stabilize psychiatrically or medically or to acquire coping skills before successfully transitioning to another Meadows campus or other appropriate program. They can address everything from current suicidal ideation, recent suicide attempts, and manic episodes to substance-induced psychosis, interventions, substance detox, or ongoing med changes requiring close observation. Patients in our Sky program are with us for a short time, usually seven days or less, and our goal isn’t to do extensive treatment during this time, but rather to help stabilize patients so they can transfer to another program.

Spero’s River or Residential program was created for anyone who needs a more individualized treatment plan or a gentler approach. The customizable care available at Spero allows each River patient to address their specific needs in a safe place where they can heal and grow. Spero River patients may be dealing with complex trauma, complex depression, anxiety, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive disorders, or non-suicidal self-injury. Spero River patients are usually with us for 45 days, but there is an option to extend as needed.

While many have benefitted from Meadows treatment programs for decades, others weren’t a fit for any of our existing programs and had to be turned away. Spero Center is the result of two years of careful planning and preparation. Housed in a brand-new building nestled between The Meadows flagship campus and our Claudia Black Young Adult Center, Spero can accommodate adults 18 and older who fit into one of these two unique categories.

“Spero will allow more people than ever to access the life-changing care available within the Meadows Behavioral Healthcare family of programs,” says Spero Executive Director Holly Doolin. “A hope-focused and strengths-based perspective underlie our approach, and our staff are ready to wrap their arms around those in our care. We know, because we’ve experienced it ourselves, that healing and lasting recovery are possible. Hope lives here at Spero and miracles are waiting.”

The Meadows already has a proven track record using their time-tested Meadows Model, a mix of proven modalities and experiential therapies created under the guidance of the Meadows Senior Fellows, an expert team of industry leaders.

“I’ve seen the power of the Meadows Model to change lives. Our programs do that every day,” says Sean Walsh, CEO of Meadows Behavioral Healthcare. “That’s why we believe it’s so important to increase accessibility to our world-class treatment, bringing it to new populations. I’m excited for patients and referral sources to experience our new Spero Center, and I can’t wait to witness the lives that will be changed through this program.”
